On down the road a bit…Hello Autumn-Part 2

On down the road…

No, I was not humming ♫♪♫ Country roads, take me home…♪♫♪..well, maybe, it might have been James Taylor ♫♪♫ I guess my feet know where they want me to go, walking on a country road..♪♫♪😉 It was raining leaves, how is it possible there are any left on the trees?

Between the rain and wind, it has been blustery! Great for raindrops, but sad to see the gold go…nothing gold can stay:( according to Robert Frost, anyway;) They are covering everything else up as well! What mushrooms? Where? Ha!

The turkeytail and tree-borne guys are easier to spot now! Everything else is covered in a 5″ layer of leaves! Have to love the tiny salmon egg fungi!

See you in the Spring guys! But leaves, no shortage of leaves of any kind;) I love the contrasting bark of the paper birch and the changing leaf colours this time of year.

Some subtle colours, some not so subtle! With and without raindrops!

Fall…I do struggle with the changes. The loss of bugs and some birds. It seems so quiet as I walk the road, so little bird song, but so much food this year for them as well. I have never seen so many maple seeds!

The swamp is covered in green algae and the Wood Ducks and Canada Geese are plowing paths through it! One day it was literally raining leaves as I walked! I had a leaf/maple seed hairdo on my return!

On the somewhat sunny day walks I spied a few reptile friends; look away, reptilaphobes! 🙂

Just after the original cottage owners/builders left, she had been explaining how terrified she was of snakes! I went back to my digging and there on the lawn in front of me was our big girl/guy…5′ plus long of beautiful Gray Rat Snake:) I had a good laugh and told it it JUST missed a great opportunity to create havoc;)

We’ve had a few frogs here as well!

One large American Bullfrog in the swamp resting on a log and lots of Northern Leopard Frogs on the lawn and beside the road, and of course the beautiful little Gray Tree Frogs! Love the little Tree frogs! Such amazing colours! This is the life I will so miss as the days grow shorter and the temperatures get colder…

There are still so many little things…I’ll leave you with the milkweed seed pods, always a source of amusement! OK, I might be easily amused;) Saludos amigos, stay tuned for birds and beasts!! Ha!
