Spooky how quickly the month went!;)

October, here now, almost gone…that was quick! Groot and his new friend Fang have been watching chipmunks together;)

This is pretty much my entire Halloween decor:) Oin and Gloin, the gnomes, hang around until Winter feeding the birds with me. Hunting season is about to start, Monday, I have the heard the practice rounds for the last few days so I won’t be out walking the road until deer season is over. Don’t fancy carting any stray bullets around in my body! So, I’m grounded for a bit but things are quieting down out there after our first hard frost, no flowers, just a few dragonflies and lots of fallen leaves!

Some covered in dewdrops, rain and a few were frozen this week as well!

It is so quiet out there. Almost no birdsong except for a few flocks of passing Canada Geese! You have to look carefully for the beauty. Maybe just a pattern in some leaves, or the sun hitting a few remaining flowers, or a pine sapling growing in an unexpected place, slowly, finding the light, it’s there.

Most of the mushrooms are hidden under the leaves but it’s amazing what you can find, if you look up! Ha! Nature never ceases to amaze me!

These were all growing on an old maple, horizontally and vertically! Nice to see the Shaggy manes on the lawn!

Other mushrooms are stuck to branch ends or bark, or growing out of the moss in places! Another old maple was covered in some kind of Oyster mushroom I think! One little conecap was poking out of a downed paper birch…it’s found its safe spot!

I get to see the bracket fungus and turkeytail all year, brightening up a rather gray forest as the year goes on!

The variety never ceases to amaze me, this life around us!

I lost my reading glasses on my last walk so I retraced my steps:) Something new! Collared Earthstar (Geastrum triplex) Boobieshrooms;) and yes, I did find my glasses at the end of the driveway, on my way back, apparently I walked right past them on my way out! Ha!
Soon it will be back to leaves and frost and horror…snow! Ha! There is always the challenge of photographing snowflakes! NOT YET PLEASE!

I had some company along the road the other day, I was nattered at quiet strongly, my very presence was being questioned; most likely I was being sworn at in red squirrel street lingo, or would that be forest lingo? ha!;) Groots friends came back as well to clean up under the bird feeder! The Pterodactylus, I mean, wild turkeys were back to snack.

…and the sunrises, the mists, the full moon! Wow, quite the week!

Somebody skywise let Vincent Van Gogh into the paint cans again! Ha! That was quite the sight!
You never know what the morning light will bring! Groot is always ready to wake me up, very, very early! It comes at a price this early morning mist watch… treats of course;)

Sometimes it is very subtle, just sitting watching the mists roll past and the colours change as the sun comes up.

The leaves are almost gone..:( just the oaks and few bright yellow birch trees have any colour!

Always hard to see the gray twigs where so much colour once was…nothing gold can stay.

Tomorrow, November, the gray month, except for those early morning mists! I watched the moonrise over several days, watching the light and the shadows until it was full, let’s call it the October moon on the 26th. It was different every evening!

Sunday…

Did you know: Photographs prove that the Moon is the same width near the horizon as when it’s high in the sky, but that’s not what we perceive with our eyes. Thus it’s an illusion rooted in the way our brains process visual information. Even though we’ve been observing it for thousands of years, there’s still not a satisfying scientific explanation for exactly why we see it!
I love the wobbly light reflections on a not-quite windstill lake! Magical. I’ll catch up tomorrow with more mists, sultry canoe shots, our Fall birds and of course the Mewberries! Saludos amigos! It was a beautiful October!
♫♪♫ But now it’s gettin’ late
And the moon is climbin’ high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin’ in your eye
Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon…♪♫♪
