Getting used to cooler weather…Part 1

The deep oranges faded quickly but so beautiful!

It’s hard this time of year. I mourn the retreat of the hummingbirds South for a long while, in a jealous way;) Just not feeling inspired, but then Mother Nature gives you a kick in the arse and says, “Get out there!”…”Yes Ma’am!”

Hard to resist! A certain Groot was NOT happy I didn’t take him down with me to supervise these covert bathrobe photography early morning operations!;) Treats were in order:)

It’s just so hard to see the flowers fading so quickly! The insects are in a feeding frenzy it seems!

The Autumn Meadowhawks are still here, along with an occasional Canada Darner! A few new to me insects as well!

It was slim pickings, insect-wise, by this weekend. Thunderclaps and wind and rain today. Everything is in hiding! It seems a strange October so far!

I was thrilled to have one day of Monarch visits a few weeks back!

There were 6 or 7 in total! Such a treat, they have been quiet, maybe due to last year’s drought?

All butterflies have been few and far between as well!

But Spiders…arachnophobes look away now! Ha! The Barn Orbweavers are beautiful! The long-legged fellow down at the dock was really interesting! Maybe an Elongate Stilt Spider-Tetragnatha elongata (?)

I noticed that the webs are gone now sadly, as I had to get under the dock to drill two holes in our gangplank for new and improved screw eye bolts! I did have to gently convince a Dark Fishing spider to exit my arm as I was poking around under the gangplank with the drill! That gangplank is a damn heavy thing to lower and raise once things start to freeze up. The water was, well, brisk I might say! Groot was quite alarmed that I entered the water voluntarily; he stared at me intently. “What is WRONG with you?” He is Groot! General

Cats enjoying a wonderful day in the sun! You can tell who hogs the spotlight 😉

One Saturday our day went wonderfully haywire when two lovely people, Laurie and Russell, who built our/their wonderful cottage on their family property here on Long Lake in 1994 stopped by for a surprise visit! I was in my Saturday Hawkeye Pierce Mode, i.e. working outside with the shovel, still in my pajamas! Ha!

It’s been 21 years since they were here! Their son rode at Ranyhyn during the summer as well! It was amazing hearing the stories and going, OK, now I get it, moments! What a delightful visit! And that dock they built is still going strong for the Little Red Canoe! Thanks Russell:) BIG GRIN! Colours were just starting then! September 12th!

It’s pretty wild how far they are along right now…I’ll leave you with the latest view and catch up on road walks and falling leaves tomorrow! Saludos, amigos!

When the wispy artsy clouds you ordered from Mother Nature came with the calm, sun and colours! Perfection:) Thank you Nature Gods;)
