♪♫♪…In September…♫♪♫

You have to start humming the song! Go Earth, Wind and Fire! So it’s not the 21st but hey…love that song anyway! We don’t need a sauna, all you have to do is go for a walk down the road, complete with bloodletting from the vampiric ( that is a word, but I had to check! Ha!) mosquitoes. It has to be healthy, right? Exercise, smexersize…I’m looking for fungi and bugs! Ha! And birds, and also keeping an eye out for the bear. They can’t move too quietly, can they?

We were going to let the apples ripen but last week one of the local bears pulled the entire tree over to the ground and feasted…😳…I’m hoping the tap root is OK, we propped it back up, took all the apples off of it and the other tree, where the bear simply broke the biggest branches off! Life in the country:) Never a dull moment! So yeah, walking along the road I’m a bit more attentive to crashing noises in the bushes 😉 Did I mention we have had rain, a lot more rain…it feels like every day, more rain! And what likes damp, dark places? Fungi!!! It will take a few posts this month to cover all the woodland gnome homes;)

I only got one walk down the road last week and it was wild! Everywhere you look, something new is popping up!

Mind you, it is a brisk walk given the dive bombing mosquitoes…no dawdling, quick photo, run away, so maybe more like exercise after all;)
We had a few dragonflies earlier in the week when we had a bit of sun! All Meadowhawks of some kind! Very little in the last few days!

Then this beauty showed up! A Canada Darner, I think!

I can’t get enough of this beautiful caterpillar! Callosamia promethea, commonly known as the promethea silkmoth! It disappeared for a few days, then was back! So much life out there! Those spiders are so beautiful!

The bees and wasps and all kinds of flies have been busy chowing down as well! And of course another junk bug! That camouflage!

Now, what else..Oh yes! So many Milkweed Tussock Caterpillars out there denuding the milkweed! Kaydids, Green Stinkbugs, and even a butterfly. I wish we were seeing more butterflies but so few so far this year! I did find some cool Gall midges under a leaf! Wild what you see when you look!

It was nice to see the Gray Comma Butterfly; you can barely see them with their wings closed, they look like a dead leaf!

Ok, I’ll stop bugging and shrooming you for now;) I went out on the one really misty morning we had and was astounded at all the spider webs dripping with rain/mist drops! The light misting covered everything!

I thought it was the rain, but later in the day, when it did rain, it all disappeared from the webs, just the mist did this!

Remarkable! I’ll leave you with the small flying jet fighters, aka Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, duking it out for the flowers and feeders! We still have a male about, they do make me smile!

…and the head honcho in charge of terrorizing everyone else;) Saludos amigos, stay tuned for yes, more fungi and of course bugs! Ha!
