Blooms and leaves and jumping things…

The elegance of a sugar maple flower…

These flowers are so incredibly beautiful! They are starting to fall now, covering the ground. Backlit by the sun, or dripping with raindrops, stunning.

We’ve had our fair share of low temperatures, hopefully today that is changing. It’s brought out a few things I can do without…blackflies, for example. Walking is with netted headgear only and gloves for me! Buggers! But look what other flying creatures I came upon on the road! Eaters of blackflies! Dragonflies!

When the shadow is as cool as the dragonfly;)

There are a few wildflowers blooming, trilliums mostly, it was a short wildflower window along the road this year!

The ferns are unfurling, or is that unferning? The Horsetails are out as well and Serviceberry blooms abound along the roads. I even found some more “Tongues of Fire”, right beside the RV! It is just so cool! Haven’t found any other mushrooms along the road yet!

Not many butterflies yet, maybe later today if the sun comes back out! I wandered out to check on our Trumpeter Swan nesting. There she was, sitting comfortably in the shade:) Did you know that both sexes collect plant material to build the nest, which includes a foundation topped by a mound of aquatic vegetation, occasionally including grasses and sedges. The female uses her bill and body to shape a nest bowl atop the finished mound. The bowl’s lining may include a few feathers.

Incubation Period: 32-37 days…I’ll keep checking back!

Mother Trumpeter Swan sitting comfortably in the shade:)

On the way to the barn today, I’ll check on the Mute Swan nesting at the Narrows Lock, for all to see. It was quite windy and the only other bird I saw was a lone Loon.

The Mewberries have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the chipmunks but they have been scarce! Perhaps not warm enough yet. The red squirrels spend a great deal of time chastising them for their actions and calling them names;)

Yesterday I wanted to get a cushion out of the deck box but had to relocate this fellow, a grey tree frog, as he was on top of the cushion pile. I put him on my hand so I could remove the cushion but then he didn’t want to go back! I put him down, he jumped back on my hand, it was chilly out so I guess my hand was the warm spot! ♫♪♫ Hello My baby…♪♫♪ Thanks Graham!

We are on a first-name basis as I have to relocate him frequently. He risks getting squished by the lid of the cushion box. I apologize and admire his bright yellow legs underneath! These small tree frogs can range from gray to bright green!

My morning routine, if I can go out and sit and watch and photograph, drink my coffee, I do. My mobility has suffered over the last few months, aches and joint pain. I’m working on it! I’m the old hotrod that drives up rattling, muffler just hanging on, could use a paint job and to think of it, a new suspension. I’m not the low mileage one that arrives on the covered trailer, a princessa;) Hahaha! But I’ve seen a lot of the world;) Built miles of fences and picked up a few thousand bales of hay. I think my mother warned me I’d regret some of my altercations with the hard landings on the ground…

So a few birds! The returning snowbirds might be colourful but you can’t beat pink feet and blue eye shadow;) Mourning Doves

I have a feeling I might be as cranky as the Ruby-throated Hummingbird when he gets up on the wrong side of the branch;)

We all have our days…or weeks;) Maybe I just need to get my boogie woogie dancing shoes on:)

When you have boogie wings instead of dancing shoes;) Cue KC and the Sunshine band!

Maybe just maybe I can wash the winter parkas and put them away with the fuzzy gloves and hats? It could jinx us as well! I dunno. I’ll ask the Mewberries, Rocket demanded a fire a few nights back! This is May? I’ll be sweating later this week I’m sure! The Mewberries say that’s perfect!

In the meantime the canoe is baled out, paddles are ready…now for a not too windy day and we’ll go look for Loon nests! Groot says fishing but I told him it’s not that time of year yet but I’ll take him as a guide! Saludos amigos!

Sun popped out late yesterday afternoon, hoping it comes back out again later today:) It’s turning from light lime to green!
