We enjoyed it while it happened;) Ah, Spring of Deception

I’ll take those temperatures whenever they get thrown our way…no minus sign in front, no minus sign to be seen…Halle..F*…ing…lujah! Ha! It’s currently waffling between rain, and freezing rain, I see the icicles forming on the railing. Sigh…We were not the only ones enjoying it!

Sun, glorious sun!

Why go to the work of pecking at the suet feeder when the bigger woodpeckers drop you nice crumbs? Male Downy Woodpecker.

Why venture off the porch when you can laze in the sunshine, in a chair…getting a bath, or sitting on a soft comfy towel.

…and the canoe! The little red canoe is emerging from the piles of snow!

A sight for sore eyes! But then the fools arrived, no Darwin awards were issued but the snowmobilers were all nominated;)

As of early March 2026, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Eastern Ontario are issuing urgent warnings regarding dangerous ice conditions on lakes in Eastern Ontario are becoming extremely unstable and hazardous due to warmer temperatures and, in some areas, rain.

Unstable Conditions: Recent fluctuating temperatures have made the ice very unsafe.

Melting/Rain: Reports from the region indicate rain and temperatures rising above freezing, causing snow to melt and creating dangerous, weak ice.

Regional Risks: While some inland lakes might still have significant ice cover, the combination of wind and warm weather is creating unsafe conditions, as noted in nearby areas where ice has broken up.

Do not go onto the ice. Conditions are rapidly deteriorating with the approach of spring.”

…then 10 skidoos crossed the entire lake, trespassed, they said they had our neighbours permission, they did not, went down our road tearing up the gravel, there isn’t much snow there now and came back the way they went…the Darwin awards for today…

There are open areas the otters are using…

I decided to go down the stairs to try to get a bit closer, it was a long ways out!  I did find fish scales on the bottom stair at the canoe today! I sat in them much to the interest of the Mewberries! Ha!

Just sitting in the sun, soaking it up…like an orange cat;) I will endeavour to be more orange cat, less calico or tortie;)

But the weather reports…not good:( Just when most of the snow on the road is gone…

The red squirrels cared not a whit for the weather repots! They were making the most of seed gathering on the warm days!

Always on scan mode, on the lookout for the Mewberries! These guys are so fast!

A red squirrel sap sucker? That’s new, who doesn’t love maple syrup! Then I thought I was seeing double!

Rocket certainly noticed our little red friends…they traded some Shakespearean insults with each other;) “Oh no! Those lumpish motley-livered Mewberries are out!”

“Not a chance you are going to catch me me you swag bellied, tickle brained wag tail!”

…and this guy! Wow! A bit early, I could have sworn the birds were eying it up!

Life here…and hey, not ALL birds! But look who has shown up! That song!

The locals are a bit grumpy with the newcomers, just having come back from Winter vacation, all tanned and smug! “Arseholes!” I can hear them saying;) Ha!

The Tree sparrows have left, along with the Juncos in the last day or so, although we had oddly enough 5 male Evening Grosbeaks eating just before the freezing rain started! Everyone else is picking through the snow to get at the long lost seeds! It’s busy out there! With the arrival of the Red Winged Blackbirds and Grackles, the Blue Jays have become a bit quieter! Damn snowbird competition! Ha!

Yesterday I decided to go sit and watch for the otter and soak up some sun when I spied this beautiful juvenile Bald Eagle was sitting, watching over another otter hole further out on the ice…they often pick at what the otters leave and last year we saw an eagle trying to steal the otter’s fish by dive bombing it!

It took off after a bit so I stayed and waited. Then the crows started carrying on so I started to scan the horizon. The it came out of nowhere in a full dive, then flattened out as it flew on, to meet up with a buddy! It looked like a slightly older Bald eagle but still not mature!

They flew around together, I was having a hard time keeping up with them, playing, practicing. The lighter coloured eagle was kowtowing to the slightly older, although not mature Eagle either! So much fun to watch! Wish they’d been closer, as always, but a treat to watch Mother Nature in action!

You never know what might fly, swim, or crawl by here;) But, no sitting outside today. We are lucky the first batch of freezing rain went North off us, sorry guys! But it’s still below freezing and more icicles are forming since I started this novelette;) The glass is iced up. I had a coffee rendezvous with the Group W Bench photographers this morning, you know who you are, Ha! But my personal trainer/chauffeur reminded me of the last repair bill to the sliding red rocket so we decided to stay home today:) Another Wednesday morning, gave me a chance to sit and write! I look forward to warmer weather, not coming anytime soon this week by the looks of it but hey, it was great while it lasted! There maybe be more birds in the snow shots coming up! Ha! But for today, we can see the road! Yeah! Saludos amigos, sunshine will be back!

Waiting patiently for Spring…He is Groot
