Spring? WTF…that’s “What The Feathers” to you!

OK, I love birds, love to photograph them, but right now, I really, really need something else to think about! I’m feathered out, what the feathers! Spring is not going as planned…as usual. We’ve had fog, wisps of clouds, a bit of sun, just enough to make you go “AHHHH…that’s nice” then it’s yanked away, gone and there are clouds and wind. We did road construction, so true Spring should be here, OK, we filled a few really bad potholes, that’s road construction;) Our cottage neighbours can NEARLY drive into their driveways, snow piles are going slowly, too slowly for me but not much choice, it’s working on the patience right now, or strangling Spring, who is intimidated and not showing his/her/it’s face;) Ha!

Little by little, good to see more snow going, than arriving;)

It won’t get you out of bird photos though;) But wait, there have been different birds! It actually just hit 22.9°C here this afternoon, but is it Spring? I’m sweating! We’ve been taunted before! Ha! We’ll see. If it keeps up the coyotes and raccoons are not going to be running across the lake, always takes me by surprise. The raccoon was really moving! The coyote, I might have howled at it;)Ha!

What you can see staring out over the lake! Or looking up! The Red Shouldered Hawk was making a racket…KiKiKi…as it flew over and circled. I ran in to get the camera and then got a few shots before it headed across the lake to the pines! Spring cleaning? Not getting rid of their Christmas tree David! Ha! Turns out pines and cedars have volatile oils that may decrease nest parasites! Thanks Kit!

Currently there is a “Special Weather Statement” for tomorrow, later in the day, heavy rain, 25-50mm…(1-2″) We’ll see, we’ve dodged a few of these warnings in the last week or so! Maybe this too. Snow is almost gone. Maybe Spring really is here! We’re keeping an eye on the beaver dam beside the road, the small swamp is getting higher, to tear it down or not, will wait to see what happens with the rain! Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow;) I waited to see if the otter came up this afternoon but it’s off fishing somewhere else. Hoping it will come a bit closer, love watching them. It even made me yawn one afternoon, contagious yawning!

Did you know: Yawning is a involuntary reflex that primarily acts to cool the brain, increase alertness, and stretch muscles in the jaw and lungs. It is thought to improve brain function by circulating cerebrospinal fluid and boosting blood flow, often acting as a “reset” during boredom or fatigue to maintain wakefulness. I’m still waiting for any signs of improved brain function today;) Mine that is;)

…and we have Red Winged Blackbirds singing up a storm. One red Winged lady arrived and flew away, way too many guys! A single Purple Finch appeared as well! Slowly but surely the Southern birds are making their way back and mingling with the regulars.

..and these guys…

“WTF happened to Spring?!” just saying….😉

Before this heat wave I was looking out the window and noticed the squirrels and birds poking at…sapcicles! Who knew!

There has been a constant drip from the maple trees last week, sap drops on cats, hats and everything underneath them. Yesterday they all melted but the trees are still dripping. The Woodpeckers and squirrels have been enjoying the liquid feast.

The ravens and crows have been watching the compost deliveries each morning, the “caw” goes out, and in comes the lucky recipients, yesterday was old stale corn tortillas! Apparently quite delicious!

I am thankful for the sun and warmth today, I was getting a case of the Spring is never going to come blues! The Red Winged Blackbirds have cheered me up with some pop tunes;) Ha!

Everyone else is a critic;) I have to say the Red bellied Woodpeckers are not taking kindly to the grackle hoards!

Do the grackles care? Not a wit!…at least we have the cheerful Goldfinches:)

See, you didn’t get out of birds did you…how about a deer?

When you can’t see completely over the drivers door;)

There were three crossing the road casually, I need to be taller to see over the door;) At least no birds in the snow shots! Right?! I should bite my tongue…you never know what April will throw at you! I’m sitting with the window open behind me, it’s an odd feeling after it being closed all Winter, it it so joyously noisy out there! It’s contagious all that song:)

So , I’m going to stick with that, happy song! The Mewberries are ecstatic that the snow is almost gone! So many places to sniff, pee, dig, it’s good times are here again!…and the squirrels and chipmunks are here as well!

Life is good. We need to concentrate on the little things we can do, things out of my control, I will let them go, as disturbing and crazy the news that bombasts us, we do need to step back and be thankful for all the little things, a ray of sun, a bird song, a curious deer or bird. cats, well. we’re always thankful for them;) Ha! So we’ll enjoy some lazing, sunning and celebrating Happy Chocolate Bunny day, because we can:) Saludos amigos…enjoy all the little things out there!

Pondering the meaning of life, wait, that’s too deep, pondering what will be for dinner…
