Late summer mists, it starts when we get a few cooler nights, and the water is warm, it can be a magical sight! Time to get motivated! Ha! Out of bed and outside, check that battery, nothing worse than getting to the bottom of the stairs and getting one shot, only to discover, that’s it, back up, get a charged battery, once again…it kind of spoils the moment;) Good stair climbing exercise though, never mind, screw that!
So much peace out there in a busy, busy world! It goes so quickly Summer, this morning there was a chill in the air, 12°C…
The cats have enjoyed the heat, not so much the rain and wet grass they say, do something Müther! Ha! Sorry guys:) It’s such a tough life!
I told them to add their song, could be ♫♪♫ Summertime..and the livin’ is easy…♪♫♪ if you’re a class act like Gamora, or if you’re Rocket it is definately Mungo Jerry and “In the Summertime” exchange the words women, for treats and all is good;) Nothing like a good laze on the lawn to make you happy! We have it all wrong as produtive hoomans! Ha! or maybe a spot of frog chasing?
Nah, Gamora is protecting them! Mr. Big Stuff, aka Groot will not get frisky until the temperatures cool down! That’s his song;)
Never gets old watching them frolic:) I need to frolic and galavant more I think! Ha!
There are few leaves already changing colours in the swamps. Too soon I say! The last of the summer flowers, Purple Thistle and the Goldenrod, have started blooming as well. The goldfinches will be happy as they make their nests out of the thistle seeds, so late!
Near the swamps the bugs start! More flowers, more sun! Everything they need to survive. The more nectar the better!
I am astounded at the variety of bugs some days! Late Fall and Winter, everything is so quiet. You notice a falling leaf in the still air, now, everything is buzzing with sound and movement!
The Meadowhawks are ruling the swamps right now! How quickly the succession of bugs coming and going changes! The Two-Striped Grasshopper gave me a nice supermodel pose on the thistle! The damselflies said they wanted equal recognition as the dragonflies, they don’t get no respect they said!
Sometimes you get a surprise in the swamps!
There were two groups of juvenile Wood Ducks on each side of the culvert! It’s getting slimy out there! I stopped to remove the grass blocking the culvert grates and watched them poking about! Well worth the walk dodging deer flies and mosquitos!
I always stop to admire the buttonbush by the swamp! One of my many favourites, so beautiful! The flowers change at different times giving you a variety of colours and shapes! Still haven’t convinced a dragonfly to perch there yet, one day! The bumblebee was most accomodating;)
I have been happy to see a few more butterflies. They have been so scarce this year, it worries me, was it last Summer’s drought or worldwide climate changes:(
The Eastern Giant Swallowtails are so impressive! This one is in beautiful shape! I had a long conversation with another Eastern Giant Swallowtail as I walked down the road, he was going the same way I was:) I said he looked like I felt…Ha! I asked him where he was going…Paul Simon’s song came to mind and I hummed as I walked along…We had a lot in common I told the butterfly;)
“In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the remainders
Of every glove that laid him down
And cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
“I am leaving, I am leaving”
But the fighter still remains
Lie-la-lie . . .”
Life goes on…:)
We have had more moths and smaller butterflies it seems this year! I rescued a beautiful red moth from inside the gazebo, isn’t it a beauty! This shot was from a few years back but same beautiful creature! That red is so striking! Scarlett winged lichen moth I think!
Summer life and colour! Check out this sunrise! It never ceases to take my breathe away!
The reflections are so beautiful when the water is flat calm. You can just sit and watch the world go by, in full colour, no BW here;) Ha!
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a “I have to drag my sorry ass out of bed THIS early to get the sunrise” but this particular morning was just too beautiful! Mike poked me and said LOOK! I missed the high pinks as I had to change the camera battery and lens, they were already fading but it was a lovely sight:) It all can change so quickly! Damn batteries, slow human!;)
Almost caught up! Where did two weeks go? There’s still a few weird bugs and flowers and birds to share and I may go looking for the blue mushrooms today;) They REALLY are blue! No drugs needed, although they help;) Saludos amigos! I’ll leave you with big blue from last year:) Indigo Milk Cap. The milk, or latex, that oozes when the mushroom tissue is cut or broken is also indigo blue, but slowly turns green upon exposure to air. How cool is that!
