First of all my Arial font disappeared in WordPress…and the text got smaller…sigh… change sucks when you can’t figure out why and how it happened! Ha! Like aging! STOPPIT! Where’s my case of spray? Thank you, Gary Larson for making my life that much funnier!
The places I could use this;) If only life were that easy! You’re just going to have to live with it! Me too:) May has flown by. The apple trees have bloomed spectacularly! Daily walks out the road have resulted in new flowers, birds and bugs, well, new this year anyway! BBB’s. Big brown birds;)
…and a mystery nest I’ll try and keep an eye on it! It went from lime green and you could see through the forest to bright green and leaves everywhere, can’t see your shadow! Ha! That green, so vibrant, so many leaves you can’t see the birds! Just the sound of their voices:)
OK, these two were REALLY easy to see;) They seem to be sticking around the road and swamps! Glad to have them. Scarlett Tanagers. You do have to be careful where you step;)
The Northern Water Snakes have been doing some sunning…and making whoopee! Ha!
A quick dip after the deed was done to cool off…some things never change, eh? Ha! I keep warning the frogs about these guys!
Do frogs get mites? Ticks? This Green frog seemed to have a few hitchhikers! Those are biting flies – “no-see-ums” while we are most familiar with species in the genus that bite mammals, including people, there are species in other genera that specialize on amphibians. Who knew?! Thanks Bruce for that information!
When you shamble along slowly it is amazing what you come upon!
The trilliums are nearly done, turning purple slowly and the honeysuckles are all starting to bloom, they have their own visitors! Now to wait for the Swallowtails!
There are a few other butterflies meandering down the road with me;)
They are not the only flying guys out there! The dragonfly population has exploded! Eat those mosquitoes, guys! Go!
So many different colours and shapes, some juveniles, some different sexes! Hard to tell them all apart! iNaturalist helps with my guesswork!
We even had a group of painted turtles sunbathing in the swamp…it’s a nice way to spend a sunny day!
Check out the guy on the right with his back feet/flippers all stretched out! Ha!
I spent one 33° afternoon, yes, 33°, with a friend of ours visiting, staring up in the shade at the big maples on the lakeside, full of song and warblers! Damn they are hard to photograph! So quick, and all those leaves in the way now!
Our regulars are unhappy with me…the feeders come down before dark and they have to wait in the morning for them to go back up! Mike had to chase a rather large black bear off our small back deck a few days ago, he’d pulled down my hummingbird feeder! Locks went on the bird bin after that…damn they have large poops. He left that as a calling card no doubt! He/she will move on soon to better pastures:)
I’ll catch up tomorrow, our last day in May with the rest of our feathered friends, fur friends and some spectacular sunrises:) Saludos amigos, Hasta mañana:)
