On the road again…

I can hear Willie Nelson singing ” I can’t wait to get on the road again, on the road again, goin’ places that I’ve never been,
seein’ things that I may never see again, and I can’t wait to get on the road again”.

Hard to get tired of this view-Punta Banda-Ensenada

Sums it up pretty well. The trip back to ranch to switch house-sitters went well but I realized just how tired I was of looking after big properties. We’ve been doing it for over 20 years now and the freedom that comes with a 34 foot trailer has been the fundamental change we have been craving and needing. It was wonderful to smooch with the horses and enjoy their company and the dogs. The views were as breath-taking as always. The hummingbirds as present as ever as well as the fantastic variety of wildlife a marvel..but..the call was calling.

So with our new house sitters in place off we go again..new rule learned..never feed the cats before transporting them..that was awkward and messy and we arrived with tired, grumpy and pukey old cats..they looked at us with disgust until they had their baths and naps and seem to have forgiven us.

We arrived in Ensenada to the sounds of race cars and helicopters at Estero Beach. A large event happening in their new track area but by evening the peace had returned and the gulls and egret cries were a welcoming noise. We hauled the trailer out of their storage area and set up home again.

Even the cats seem happier, eating more and looking out the windows at the new sights…or maybe they feed off of our positive energy. Returning to the house it seemed there were echoes everywhere, that it was no longer home. It is such a beautiful space but something was missing, it was if we’d said our goodbyes and there was an awkward silence now that we were back. Maybe there will be a day I feel differently about the ranch and the immensely beautiful landscape that surrounds it, but the solitude and remoteness wasn’t the bonus it had been in the beginning. It felt more like a chain and shackle that has tied us down. Our last night the full moon greeted us over the sierra. Mike and I watched it rise over the mountain and it felt like a goodbye..perhaps that is a good sign. Someone will love this amazing place as much as we have, but it is time to leave…I can’t wait to get on the road again:)
